BBC America: 10 things you might not know about the Mad Max Films

"for those of you who aren’t familiar with the movies—or even if you are—here are ten facts you may not have known about the franchise:
Writer/director George Miller worked as an emergency room doctor in Sydney, Australia, and based parts of Mad Max on the injuries he saw and treated. The area of rural Australia in which he grew up was also notorious for car accidents, and the younger Miller witnessed several himself. In order to help fund the production of the movie, which shot in 1977 and 1978, Miller spent three months carrying out emergency medical calls, with his producing partner Byron Kennedy driving the car.... Thompson predicts Miller to win Best Director at the Oscars!

Prestiged Oscar predictor Anne Thompson thinks that even nail bitter finish, George Miller will win "Best Director" at the Oscars
"Launched at Cannes, Miller's fourth "Mad Max" action adventure "Fury Road" (Warner Bros., May 15) was praised by critics — who included it in year-end ten-best lists and awards — and is so well-made that it rose above the fray despite its genre pedigree. Academy voters, who gave "Fury Road" 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director, should reward Miller the way they did such large-scale past triumphs as Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" and Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity." It's about recognizing the nuts and bolts of the craft of fashioning cinema spectacle that makes your eyes pop. "

We'll see a black & white version of Mad Max Fury Road according Miller

Miller told LA Times : " Not in cinemas. The best version of "Road Warrior" was what we called a "slash dupe," a cheap, black-and-white version of the movie for the composer. Something about it seemed more authentic and elemental. So I asked Eric Whipp, the ["Fury Road"] colorist, "Can I see some scenes in black and white with quite a bit of contrast?" They looked great. So I said to the guys at Warners, "Can we put a black-and-white version on the DVD?" There wasn't enough room. [It'll end up] on another version with commentary and other features."

The whole interview with LA Times is very interesting

Indiewire writes that Mad Max Fury Road might win the Oscar as Best Picture!

"And this story may indeed wind up as the most unorthodox Oscar winner in modern history. While other blockbusters have found their way into the best picture race — from "The Dark Knight" to "Avatar" — none of them offer such a rich tapestry of ideas to complement their baser elements. "Fury Road" is the rare movie that starts and ends with a bang that reverberates, long after the credits roll, as the conversations continue."
